# How to Play Chess on Cosmos Video

Chess on Cosmos Video is a 2-player match on a standard 8x8 board with a 5-minute timer per side. It uses all the usual chess rules and piece movements, but runs natively at a game table inside a Cosmos Video space. Teammates can gather around as spectators to watch the match live.

## Rules

1. One player takes White, the other takes Black. White moves first.
2. Players alternate turns, each moving one piece according to standard chess rules.
3. Each player has a 5-minute timer for all of their moves in the match.
4. Either player may offer a draw, which the opponent can accept or decline.
5. Either player may concede at any point to end the match.
6. The match ends in checkmate, stalemate, timeout, concession, or accepted draw.

## Setup in Cosmos Video

1. Enter a public Cosmos Space or create your own.
2. Walk up to a game table with the gamified appearance.
3. Press X on the keyboard, or click Games in the toolbar.
4. Select Chess, choose your colour, and invite an opponent.

## Tips for Groups

- Play with a 5-minute timer for fast, punchy lunchtime matches.
- Use concede rather than stalling when a position is clearly lost.
- Host a running bracket across the week for ongoing team rivalry.
- Let newer players offer draws earlier to avoid long uneven games.
